Food Tour Spotlight: Riverside Food Tours

This week on Queens Food Tours‘ “Food Tour Spotlight”, we feature Riverside Food Tours of Cincinnati. What makes this very special is that we had the pleasure of meeting Laura and her husband Mike when they took our tour of Queens, NYC a few months ago.  It was great getting to know them and learning a bit more about their tours. Just like us, they don’t believe in a food “tasting.” With generous hearty portions of some of the best eats in Ohio, they’ll leave your stomach full and mind enriched with some fascinating historical tid-bits.

Tell us about yourself and Riverside Food Tours?

My name is Laura Noyes and my husband Mike and I created Riverside Food Tours. I had never even heard of a food tour until we took a trip to Newport Rhode Island last fall.  As luck would have it, we booked a Rhode Island Red Food Tour owned by Paula Silva. I was so impressed that I knew immediately I wanted to create this experience in Cincinnati, OH.  I probably drove Paula a little crazy with my relentless questions about how do I do this?  She said the only place to learn is Chicago Food Tours Pro.  Two weeks later we were in Chicago learning the ins and outs of the food tour business.

When did you start Riverside Food Tours?

Immediately after returning from Chicago in October, 2015, we selected a neighborhood in Covington Kentucky, Mainstrasse Village which was already a tourist destination.

Tell us about your city and what made you start a food tour there?

The closest major city, Cincinnati, Ohio is on the banks of the Ohio River.  Downtown Cincinnati has a gorgeous view as well as revitalized neighborhoods with award winning restaurants and a new street car that links the neighborhoods. It has Major League teams like the Reds and the Bengals. This will sound confusing, but our first two food tours actually take place two minutes from Cincinnati on the other side of the Ohio River in Covington, Kentucky – hence our name: Riverside Food Tours.  Covington is loaded with beautiful architecture, charming neighborhoods, diverse restaurants and walk-ability!

What makes Riverside Food Tours so different and unique?

Covington Kentucky is home to a totally restored German village called Mainstrasse Village. We walk through a living time capsule of tree lined, cobblestone streets filled with Italianate style buildings, visit 100 foot tall Glockenspiel and the Goose Girl Fountain.  Our Roebling Point Tour  is situated at the base of the beautiful Roebling Suspension Bridge and adjacent to the Licking Riverside neighborhood – 1800’s millionaire’s row!

What type of food do we get to try on Riverside Food Tours?

We tout our tours as a “Culinary Adventure”. We serve ample servings, so I cringe at the word “tastings”. We enjoy deep fried pretzels with homemade beer cheese, local craft beer, Kentucky bourbon cocktails, Thai chicken salad, gourmet chili cheese dog topped with goetta  a Greek inspired NY style pizza, homemade seasonal desserts, Ethiopian coffee, various flavors of gourmet mac and cheese, authentic Irish bangers and mash, Scotch eggs, roasted beet salad with duck proscuitto ~ just to name a few.  The list goes on and on.  No one goes home hungry!

Thank you Laura and Mike! There ya have it folks, next time you head up to Cincinnati, book your tour with Riverside Food Tours!
